
The regular meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 5:00 p.m. through a virtual zoom meeting on
December 15, 2020. The meeting was called to order by president Dean Bidlack who opened the meeting with the
Pledge of Allegiance.

Mrs. Tracy Potts, Elementary Principal, reported:
•The elementary students enjoyed buying Christmas gifts at Candy Cane Lane Shop. The elementary staff
and students would like to thank the P.O.P for sponsoring Candy Cane Lane.
•Congratulations to the elementary staff and students for donating over $2,600 to Christmas for Kids from
their raffle basket sales, jeans day, and can collection. Columbus Grove students also donated money. The
money raised helped buy Christmas gifts for many families in Putnam County. Thank you to Mrs. Mary Beth
Recker and Mrs. Erin Schmidt for organizing the distribution of gifts.
•Third grade reading guarantee results are in. Four students did not meet the requirements for the Third
Grade Reading Guarantee. Those students can take the test again in March as well as take an alternate
assessment. Students who do not pass the test will not be retained this year.
•Upcoming events:
December 23-January 3 – No School – Christmas Break
January 11 and 12 – DIBELS screening for grades K-3
January 8 – End of Quarter
January 18 – No School – Martin Luther King Day
Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Principal, reported:
•We are happy to announce that Mr. Andrew Madley has joined the staff as a long-term sub in our
HS Spanish position. Mr. Madley will be spending the rest of this semester helping students finish their
online program and will take over full instruction and assessment of the Spanish courses starting on
January 11th (the start of the 2nd semester).
•A huge THANK YOU to Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Martinez, Mrs. Siefker, and Mr. N. Schmidt for their help in keeping
the Spanish program going through the first semester.
•JH/HS semester exams are scheduled for Friday (periods 1-4) and Monday (periods 5-8). Tuesday is
scheduled to be a make-up day for exams and wrapping up anything needed before Christmas Break.
•The winter concerts have been moved to an online format in order to give the band and choir more time to
prepare. The concerts will be published online before Christmas break begins. Please watch for more
information.
• Fall end-of-course test retakes are complete. We should receive results in late January/early February.

$500.00 grant donation from Cooper Family Foundation (Purpose of Grant: VH Cooper Scholarship)

-General Fund (001) to Cafeteria Fund (006) for $6500 (Amt to be provided at board meeting)

•Approved the following appropriation changes:

•Approved to amend the Certificate of Estimated Resources:

•Amended the following TIF Agreements:
RMK Farming TIF
Requesting the Continental Board of Education to amend the tax schedule in the TIF agreement
to reflect that the district chooses Option “B” with the first year of tax redirection being 2021 and the first year
of tax collection 2022.
Vennekotter Farms TIF
Requesting the Continental Board of Education to amend the tax schedule in the TIF agreement
to reflect that the district chooses Option “B” with the first year of tax redirection being 2021 and
the first year of tax collection 2022.
•Approved the Village of Continental Tax Abatement consideration, under the current Community
Reinvestment Area (CRA) Ordinance:
Peg Roughton Tax Abatement
Five-year tax abatement consideration for a new property structure located at 103 Lake Place,
(Parcel Numbers 24-080140.0000 & 24-081160.0000) Continental, Ohio, owned by Peggy L.
Roughton.
•Approved the following expenditures for the 2020-2021 school year from Athletic Fund (300).
Pay janitor salaries for all Saturday basketball games.
•Set 2021 compensation for board members at $100 per meeting held locally, not to exceed 16 meetings plus
$100 for one county meeting per year.
•Appointed Ron Bradford as President Pro Tem for the January Organizational Meeting.
•Approved the following subscriptions:
OSBA Annual Membership (Based upon ADM)

School Management News – (Electronic Subscription)
•Approved a resolution to accept the amounts and rates as determined by the budget commission and
authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor.
Superintendent’s Report:
•Approved the first reading and on the following NEOLA policies:
6114 Cost Principles – Spending Federal Funds
6325 Procurement – Federal Grants/Funds
The Board:
•Heard the transportation report.
• Robin Etter gave the Vantage Career Center report and congratulated former Vantage student Casey Etter for
receiving the American FFA Degree, the highest degree achievable in the National FFA Organization.
•Assigned Andrew Madley as a long-term Spanish teacher, effective Dec 14, 2020.
There will be no school December 23-January 3 for Christmas break. Classes will resume on Monday, January 4.
The 2021 Organizational Board Meeting will be held on January 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the administrative office with the
Regular January Board meeting following. The meeting adjourned at 5:40 p.m.
