The regular monthly meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 5:30 p.m. on February 17, 2015 in the administrative office. President Dean Bidlack called the meeting to order.
Mr. Brian Gerdeman, Elementary Principal, reported:
•PARCC testing began today for students in Grades 4-6. We had one glitch, with one student, in the computer based testing, but otherwise, things went as scheduled and the students worked very hard at the assessments. Our last testing day will be Tuesday, March 3rd.
•Spring pictures are scheduled for tomorrow, February 18th for Preschool, Kindergarten, and Grades 1 and 2; Grades 3-6 will be photographed on Thursday, February 19th.
•The Putnam County Art Show will be held on Sunday, March 15th at Pandora Local School from 1:00-4:00 p.m. •Scholastic Book Fair will be held at Continental Elementary from March 9th-13th. There will be a family night on Thursday, March 12th from 3:30-6:30 p.m.
Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Dean of Students:
•The 3rd quarter midterm was Friday; midterm reports were sent out today for students earning D’s or F’s in their classes.
•Update on PARCC testing that began today.
•NHS Inductions are scheduled for Thursday, February 19th at 1:30pm in the Auditorium.
•The All-County Band/Choir and Art Show will be held on March 15th at Pandora Local School.
Athletic Updates
•All tournament basketball tournament brackets are posted to the athletic page of the website.
•Winter sports awards are scheduled for Monday, March 16th at 6:30pm in the auditorium.
•The first day the OHSAA permits coaching in baseball and softball is Monday, February 23rd; Track & Field is Monday, March 9th. All schedules for the spring sports teams are posted to the athletic page of the school website.
Treasurer’s Report:
The Board:
•Approved a resolution to accept the amounts and rates as determined by the Budget Commission, authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the County Auditor.
•Approved the advance from the General Fund to the Cafeteria Fund for $872.36.
•Approved the following donations:
$10 from an anonymous donor to the Junior High Student Council.
$194 from donations at the FFA Farmers’ Breakfast to the FFA.
Superintendent’s Report:
•Commended Cathy Berry and Deb McIntyre for their hard work with the PARCC testing preparations.
•Reported that we have used 6 calamity days. Monday, February 16th was used as a make up day.
•Heard the transportation report.
The Board:
•Heard the Vantage Career Center report given by board member Ron Bradford.
•Approved NHS trip to Cincinnati on March 24, 2015.
•Approved the following relocations:
Pam Retcher from Kindergarten to Grade One
CarrieJo Fitzwater from Kindergarten to Grade Two
Krystal Bowers from Grade One to Grade Two
Sara Thomsen from JH Intervention to Grades 4-6 Intervention
•Approved a two-year limited contract to Mary McClure, full-time bus driver.
•Approved the following volunteers:
Arnie Hardy, Baseball Volunteer Assistant Coach
Scott Sarka, Baseball Volunteer Assistant Coach
Dalton Bradford, Track Volunteer Assistant Coach
•Approved March 12 & 13 as dock days for Becki Bidlack.
•Approved Memorandum of Understandings between the Continental Education Association and the Continental Board of Education allowing school to be in session on President’s Day without paying double-time rates to employees; and to remove the Technology Coordinator position from the Continental Education Association, effective June 1, 2015.
•Commended Brian Gerdeman for 11 years of service as elementary principal.
•Entered into executive session at 6:03 p.m. to discuss employment of personnel. Exited executive session at 6:54 p.m.
•Approved Tracy Potts as elementary principal, and issued her a 3-year contract, effective August 1, 2015.
•Approved administrative contracts for Superintendent Joel Mengerink (5-year contract), Dean of Students/Athletic Director Tim Eding (3-year contract), and Treasurer Kathy Schmitz (3-year contract).
The meeting adjourned at 6:58 p.m. The next regular board meeting will be held on March 17th at 7:00 p.m. in the administrative office.
