The regular monthly meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 7:00 in the administrative office. President Dean Bidlack called the meeting to order.
A hearing of the public was held regarding the use of IDEA Part B Funds/Title VI-B Funds.
Mrs. Tracy Potts, Elementary Principal, reported:
•There were no bullying incidents the first semester.
•The Health Department made a visit on February 1st.
•Jump Rope for Heart, sponsored by the American Heart Association, was last week.
•Students bought “Kindness Grams” during Random Acts of Kindness Week. $225.00 was raised for Relay for Life.
•There will be a breakfast at the elementary cafeteria on March 2nd at 8:30 a.m. for all local business owners. The students chose to do this to incorporate the community into their “Random Acts of Kindness Week”. Some students created art projects to give to business owners.
•”Packs for Pirates” Weekend Bounty will start in April 2016. Individuals from local churches have started this program with the help from local sponsors. Students in need will be provided a bag of non-perishable food that they can consume over the weekend.
•Six teachers will be attending the PAX training at the ESC on March 8. PAX Good Behavior Games is a classroom management tool.
•The Elementary Book Fair is scheduled for March 7-11 with family night on March 10th from 3:30-6:30 p.m.
Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Dean of Students, reported:
•Bullying Report—Zero cases were reported for the 1st semester of the 2015-16 school year.
•Midterm reports for students earning D’s or F’s in the 3rd quarter will be mailed to parents this week.
•Student Council is sponsoring a student Blood Drive with the American Red Cross on Wednesday, March 2nd.
•The All-County Arts Festival is scheduled for Sunday, March 6th at 1:00 p.m. at Columbus Grove High School.
•We will begin the process of student class scheduling for next year in the near future.
•Thank you to Krendl Manufacturing in Delphos for allowing Mr. Stegbauer’s Power Mechanics and Welding classes to tour their plant last week.
•Thank you to Shane Parsons of the US Army (Ret) from Fostoria for coming to our basketball game on February 5th to accept the donation of our Student Leadership Team on behalf of the Wounded Warrior Project. Students raised $1,267 through Volley for Vets and the Legion contributed another $500 to the cause.
•Our students won the WOSN “Fans of the Week” contest last week. Additionally, our students were selected as one of six statewide finalists for the OHSAA “Golden Megaphone Award” (the WOSN and OHSAA contests are separate) that encourages positive student behavior at basketball games. Student representatives will be honored at halftime of a boys’ state tournament game.
•The FFA Farmers Breakfast is this Saturday, February 20th.
Athletic Update:
•All basketball tournament brackets are posted to the website.
•The Winter Sports Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Monday, March 14th at 6:30 in the auditorium.
•First day of coaching for Baseball and Softball is February 22nd; first day of coaching for Track & Field is March 7th.
•Spring sports schedules are posted to the website—some slight schedule changes are still taking place.
•Point of information—The OHSAA is requiring member schools to change to a new game management/game contracting system effective the 2016-17 school year.
Treasurer’s Report:
The Board approved the following:
•Resolution to accept the amounts and rates as determined by the Budget Commission and authorized the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the County Auditor.
•Return of advance from the Cafeteria Fund (006) to the General Fund (001) for $2,613.65.
•Revised College Credit Plus partnership agreement for the 2016-2017 school year with The University of Toledo.

•Donations:

Superintendent’s Report:
Mr. Mengerink gave the transportation report. The board approved to advertise for a new 72-passenger bus (propane and diesel) with a possible trade-in.
Reported the following:
•There will be a new immunization requirement for students entering grades 7 & 12. Letters to parents will be sent home in the near future explaining the meningococcal-vaccine.
•A letter has been received from the union requesting the start of negotiations. The current three-year agreement will expire on June 30, 2016.
•To date, we have used only 1 calamity day for the current school year.
Ron Bradford gave the Vantage Career Center report. He reported that 2016 marks the 40th year for Vantage Career Center.
The Board:
•Issued a supplemental contract to Taylor Geckle for Junior High Girls Track.
•Approved the following volunteers: Jim States and Joel Rue, Baseball; Paige Ordway and Dalton Bradford, Track.
•Accepted the resignation of superintendent Joel Mengerink, effective July 31, 2016.
The Board went into executive session at 7:31 p.m. to discuss the employment of a public employee. They exited executive session at 8:10 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 8:11 p.m. The next regular board meeting will be held on March 15, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the administrative office.
