The regular meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 6:00 p.m. on August 21, in the administrative office. The meeting was called to order by Board President Dean Bidlack, who opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Hearing of the Public: The Board congratulated the following student that was selected as August “Artist of the Month”:
Jr. High/High School Elementary
Addison Troyer, 8th Grade and Aria Nolan, 1st Grade
Addison Troyer is an 8th grader at Continental School and is the daughter of Bruce and Cindy Troyer. Her drawing titled, “Hammer Time” is on display in the administrative office at Continental School.
Aria Nolan is a 1st grader at Continental Elementary. She is the daughter of David and Ashley Nolan. Aria’s drawing titled, “Shape Birds” is on display in the administrative office at Continental School.
Building Reports:
Jr. High/High School
•The 2024-2025 School Year has kicked off! We had a great first day with our students! Thank you to the PBIS Leadership Team and the entire JH/HS Staff for their hard work in planning and participating in our kickoff event today!
•Thank you to the custodial crew and Mr. Siebeneck for their hard work in getting the buildings ready for the start of the school year. Thank you to Mr. Kosch for his hard work over the summer to get our technology ready and for leading the transition to ParentSquare.
•Thank you to Continental Alumnus Dr. Scott Grant for leading our staff in a very inspiring and challenging PD on Monday. Dr. Grant challenged the staff to clarify our values, focus our “leadership lens”, and to be intentional about all that we do as educational leaders of our community.
•Enrollment Update:

•Fall Picture Day is Wednesday, August 28th. Information will be going home tomorrow.
•No School on September 2-Labor Day
•The annual JH Fundraiser (cookie dough and gifts) will begin on September 10th.
•Congratulations to Mrs. Katelyn Dendinger for earning a Delta Kappa Gamma Society-Beta Eta Chapter Mini-Grant! Mrs. Dendinger will be using the grant funds to purchase 18 Hi-Lo Books for our Library that are specially designed for students that need extra support with fluency and reading comprehension.
Elementary
•Enrollment Update:
- New Students: 27

- Enrollment: 296
•We had 21 students attend summer school. Thank you to the summer school teachers.
•LifeWise started today. We have 178 students attending.
•PBIS bootcamp will be held on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024.
•Packs for Pirates distribution will begin on Friday, September 6, 2024.
•A big thank you to the custodians for their hard work in getting the school ready over the summer.
•Thank you to Mr. Kissell and the Board of Education for the new landscaping and reading pad.

Treasurer’s Report:
Treasurer Amy Rau-Lawhorn updated the Board on the District’s financial report including investments, cash reconciliation, and Board spending plan.
The Board:
•Approved the following Appropriation changes:
003 Permanent Improvement $33,000.00 ——- Increase
001 General $170,000.00 ——- Increase
300 Athletic Fund $6,082.91 ——- Increase
•Approved to amend the Certificate of Estimated Resources as follows:

•Approved entering into an agreement with the Wood County Educational Service Center for the Wood County Juvenile Detention Center and the Juvenile Residential Center of Northwest Ohio. Costs are $88.00 per student/per day for students assigned to JDC; $96.00 per student/per day for students assigned to long-term care at JRC.
•Approved to create funds for the 7th Grade Class of 2030 and ESports
•Accepted the following donations to the Athletic Fund:
Blue and Gold Club $4082.91
OHSAA $2000.00
•Approved a propane agreement with JPS Oil and Propane for commercial lock-in price of $1.66 per gallon of propane for the upcoming heating season.
Superintendent’s Report:
The Board:
•Approved bus routes for school 2024-2025 and authorized the superintendent to make any necessary changes as they occur.
•Heard that the first day of school for students will be Wednesday, August 21.
Personnel:
The Board:
•Approved the August 2023 Putnam County substitute teacher list, provided by the Putnam County ESC.
•Accepted the resignation of Cody Etter, 7th Grade Girls Basketball Coach.
•Approved the supplemental contract for the 2024-2025 school year to Terri Schlegel as the Certified Reading Specialist.
•Approved retroactive employment of Sarah Llewellyn as full-time aide at 189 days per year, 6.67 hours per day, (183 work days plus 6 holidays) effective 2024-2025 school year.
•Approved retroactive employment of Loretta Quigley, effective August 15, on a one-year limited contract as a part-time cook at Step 0, 2-3 hours per day, 189 days per year (183 work days plus 6 holidays).
•Approved the following supplemental contract for the 2024-2025 school year, pending proper
certification and background checks:
Elliott Kosch, ESports Coach
Jacob Palte, Art Club Advisor
Neil Horstman, Varsity Soccer Volunteer Assistant
•Approved Brielle Sheets as a temporary substitute teacher who does not hold a post-secondary degree, as is otherwise required pursuant to Ohio law and regulations, including Ohio Revised Code 3319.226 and 3319.30, Ohio Administrative Code Section 3301-23-44, and/or Board Policy 3120.04 -Employment of Substitutes, during the 2023-2024 school year. This is pending satisfactory background checks, if applicable, as well as a valid non-renewable temporary substitute teaching license issued by the Ohio Department of Education to serve as a substitute teacher.
•Approved three-year contract for Superintendent Danny Kissell, effective August 1, 2025 thru July 31, 2028.
