On Friday, Continental High Junior Rhaegan Marshall finished 12th in the OHSAA Division III State Track and Field Meet Girls Long Jump. Rhaegan came into the meet seeded 18 in the field of 18 which meant she was the first to jump. The state meet is divided into flights of 9 with lower seeds being in flight 1. Rhaegan had advanced to State with a 4th place finish in the Fostoria DIII Regional with a jump of 16’4.5″. Marshall showed nerves of steel as she added 4.5″ from her regional qualifying jump with the first jump of the meet. That 16’9″ jump would be Rhaegan’s best jump of the day. Marshall stood at second place after the first jump in flight 1. She moved into 3rd after Ally Schindler (Ayersville) and Alex Kessen (Riverdale) both jumped 16″11.5″ for their second jump in first flight. Marshall fouled her second jump. No changes in the leader board after the final jumps were completed in flight 3. Marshall put up a 16’6.5″ effort on her last jump. The second flight first round jumps had 6 jumpers over 17″ moving Marshall to the final qualifying spot for finals. Marshall continued to stand in the last finals qualifying place after the second jumps in flight as 2 jumpers went into the last jump with no lengths recorded. Marshall was still on her way to the state finals until the 5th jumper in the 2nd flight surpassed her 16’9″ with a 17’1″effort. The other two girls from flight 2 also qualified for the finals. A 17’0.25″ effort was needed to advance to the DIII Girls Long Jump finals.
Overall winner of the DIII Girls Long Jump Shelby Grover (Lucas) who had fouled on her first 2 jumps but ended the day with an 18’5.75″ effort. Mara Pearson (Fort Recovery) was second with a 18’5″ effort. Third place was Olivia Stolley (Fort Recovery) who went 18′. Fourth was Audhra Meyers (Riverdale) at 17’8″. Jameson Pillifant (Columbus School for Girls) 5th 17’7.5″. Izzy Zahn (Coldwater) 6th 17’5″. Ross Ky’Ara 7th (St. Thomas Aquinas) 7th 17’4.25″. Angela Williams 8th (Lehman Catholic) 17’1″.
Great Job Rhaegan for moving up from being seeded 18th in the field to 12th and to being 4 jumps away from being in the State Championship final field.
