
It might have been cold outside but inside the Miami East Gymnasium, Wes Enis had the hot hand as the Vikings defeated Meadowdale 59-27. The Vikings got on the board first as Enis hit a basket for an early 2-0 Viking lead. A 3 by the Lions was followed by a Jacob Roeth and Enis basket, Vikings 6-3. The Lions made it a 1 point game with a basket, 6-5. A 5 point Viking run (a pair of Enis baskets and a Roeth free throw) finished off the Vikings 1st quarter scoring at 11. The Lions would put in 2 to make it 11-7 Vikings after 1.
The Lions would make it a 1 point by hitting a 3 to open up the second quarter scoring. Vikings 11-10. The game then tilted to the Vikings as the put together a 14 point run to take a commanding 25-10 lead. Roeth would have 8 points during the run from a 3 point play, a 3, and a pair of free throws while Enis and Bryce Haught would both make 3s. The quarter ended with the team’s exchanging 3 pointers with Enis hitting for the Vikings. Miami East 28-13 at half.
The third quarter had the Vikings Enis put in the first 2 which was followed by a pair of Lion free throws. Vikings 30-15. Enis would hit a 3 to make it 33-15. A 5 point run by the Lions cut the deficit to 13, 33-20 Vikings. A 10 point Viking run would finish off the Vikings third quarter scoring as Enis would add a pair of baskets and a pair of free throws, Mitchel Kemp and Haught both put in a basket. The Lions would hit a 3 for a 43-22 Viking lead after 3.
The Vikings would put in the first 14 points of the 4th to take a 57-22 lead and have a running clock. The Vikings outscored the Lions 16-5 in the fourth for a 59-27 Viking victory.
Wes Enis led all scorers with 32 points, Jacob Roeth added 13 points. Bryce Haught scored 5 Luke Hamaker 3 and Kamden Wolfe, Mitchel Kemp and Matthew VanPelt all scored 2. Miami East made seven 3s, Enis 4, Roeth, Hamaker, and Haught 1 each. Meadowdale made four 3 pointers. Miami East was 10-12 from the line (Enis 6-6).
Miami East improves to 7-0 and will host Riverside on Tuesday. Meadowdale is 2-4.
