In order to adhere to social distancing measures and to keep clients and employees safe, the Putnam County Health Department is offering extra immunization clinics throughout the month of May. Usually, clinics are held each Tuesday and on the fourth Wednesday morning of the month. However, to provide a safe environment and increase opportunities for children and adults to receive vaccines, the health department will be holding clinics more frequently, while also ensuring that there is minimum contact between clients.
Sherri Recker, Director of Nursing at the Putnam County Health Department stated, “We want our clients to feel safe while coming to the health department for their immunizations, so we are spacing out our appointment times to decrease the number of people in our office at one time.” She added, “With school out of session, we are encouraging parents who have children that may need school shots to bring them in now. We hope to decrease the busy clinic that we usually see in late summer, especially since we may not be able to offer as many appointments.” Children who will be entering kindergarten, seventh or twelfth grade next year may require some immunizations. It is advised to get them early, to avoid the rush later or to cause a child to be exempt from school.
To provide immunizations as safely as possible, the health department asks that you follow these guidelines:
- If you have a mask, please wear it when entering the health department. If you don’t have a mask, please request one when entering.
- Leave other children at home if possible.
- Appointments are required. NO WALK-INS will be allowed. Please call 419-523-5608 for an appointment.
- If you or your child are feeling ill, please call to reschedule.
