Many students in grades 2-6 at Continental Elementary participated in a Family Fun Science Night on Tuesday, March 29. Over 50 families came to the elementary gym to learn about Science. The program was put on by Mrs. Baughman, 5th grade Science Teacher, and Mrs. Schlegel and Mrs. Siebeneck, co-coordinators of the After School Program. The funding for the evening came from Mrs. Baughman’s Dominion Grant and the 21st Century Grant. At the Science night families explored a variety of Science stations set up by The Outreach (Science4U) program from Science Central in Ft. Wayne. Students and their family members could choose from activities relating to Engineering in Space and Science in Motion. At the space stations, participates could take a trip through the solar system and visit the International Space Station. They could also blast off, eat like an astronaut, step into astronaut suits, and try to build structures while wearing astronaut gloves. It was an out-of-this world experience. The Science in motion activities included creating motion with chemistry and physics, blowing up a balloon with the power of chemistry and creating two color polymers and watching as the colors collide and combine.
On behalf of Continental Elementary we would like to thank the families who brought their children to join in on the science fun.
