Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. – Psalm 136:1 (NIV)
The congregation at Christ United Methodist Church would like to thank everyone for supporting their 95th annual Turkey Supper. God surely supplies our needs! That big church on South Main Street has an average attendance of about 22 on any given Sunday and yet on Saturday, November 23rd, 851 meals went out through the basement doors in just under an hour and a half! Community friends volunteer to help shred turkey, chop celery, husk corn, bake pies, cut pies, break bread, grind cranberries, dish up the meals and so much more. Without their help, the annual Turkey Supper would not have been possible for many years. We are so grateful to the wonderful friends who come back year after year and also to the new folks who help us continue this Thanksgiving tradition!
A month ago, 900 carry-out trays were purchased in preparation for the upcoming community meals. Fifteen were used for another community meal a couple of weeks ago and after Saturday’s supper, we have a short stack of 34 trays left! God is good! We sincerely apologize to the cars that were turned away when the food ran out (thank you to the woman who didn’t get a meal but donated anyway – may you be richly blessed). Our hope is always that we are able to serve everyone that comes and to not turn anyone away. This year we cooked 11 roasters of turkey, 6 roasters of gravy, 7 roasters of potatoes, 7 roasters of sweet corn and 26 pans of dressing. The bulk of the dressing is baked offsite and our 96 year old building was able to handle the 31 roasters plugged in throughout the basement and out buildings. It is all truly a miracle!
Thank you for supporting our mission that those who came before us started so many years ago to offer traditional, affordable Thanksgiving meals to the families in our community and beyond. May you all have a blessed Thanksgiving.
If you are looking for a church home, feel free to join us on Sundays at 9am as Pastor Monica leads us in worship. We are so blessed to have you as our guest!
