Geraldine “Gerri” Houck, 1921 – 2018

Geraldine “Gerri” Houck age 96, of Holgate, died early Monday morning, March 26, 2018 in her daughter’s home surrounded by her entire family.

Her Legacy… She was born July 1, 1921 to Henry and Odelia Bensman in Miller City. On August 27, 1949 she married John E. Houck. She was a nurse’s aide at the Holgate Nursing Center for 15 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holgate, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, St. Mary’s Rosary Altar Society, and the Holgate Athletic Boosters.

Her Family… She is survived by her loving children: Tim (JoEllen) Houck, Defiance, Ed (Kate) Houck, Napoleon, Mary Ann (Tom) Kelly, Holgate, and Margaret (Todd) Falkenberg, Holgate; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and a sister, Bernie Houck, Continental. Gerri was preceded in death by her husband, John; 2 great grandchildren, a brother, Herbert, and sisters, Hildegard, Agnes, and Gert.

Her Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate on Tuesday, with the Rosary beginning at 2 pm, followed by visitation lasting until 8pm. Everyone will be welcomed into St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holgate on Wednesday at 9:30 am with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Gerri’s memory can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
