Girls Basketball Final

April 1, 2019 by Karen Donaldson

Continental Girls basketball team struggled through a rough regular season that saw 4 wins and end in a Division IV Van Wert District Sectional Semi Final lost to Crestview at Paulding.  Crestview would be eliminated in the Sectional Finals by Wayne Trace.  Ottoville advanced out of the Van Wert District by besting Wayne Trace 34-31 in overtime.  Columbus Grove advanced to the Division IV Ottawa – Glandorf District Finals but would be taken out by Arlington 42-33.  Putnam County League Champ Kalida lost in a Van Wert District Semifinal to Wayne Trace.

Ottoville took on the Fostoria District winner Hopewell Loudon in the opening round of the Elida Regional.  The Big Green bested the Chieftains 47-41.  The Regional finals would be all Ottoville as they disposed of Ottawa Glandorf District winner Arlington 62-28.  Stryker filled the other Elida Regional slot from the Archbold District.

At the State Semifinals Ottoville took out Shadyside 50-43.  The State Finals was a rematch of the 2018 Finals as Ottoville and Minster tangled again.  For the second year in a row the Minster Wildcats emerged as State Champs 53-37.

At the end of the season longtime Big Green Head Coach Dave Kleman announced his retirement from coaching.  Kleman coached the Big Green for 27 years winning 12 Putnam County League titles, 14 District crowns, and 8 appearances at the State Tournament.  The Big Green were State Runners-up 3 times under Kleman.
