
On Monday night Continental High Girls basketball team went to the Hive where the Cory Rawson girls used the home court advantage to hit seven 3s on the way to a 54-24 decision. The game started with the Pirates Bryn Tegenkamp putting the first points on the board. Pirates 2-0. Four basket by the Hornets gave them the lead for good. 8-2 Hornets. The Hornet run was stopped when Cheyenne Rose would make a basket. 8-4 Hornets. The Hornets hit their first 3 of the night to take an 11-4 lead. A pair of free throws by Reese Knowles was followed by a the Hornets hitting a 3 and a 2. Hornets 16-6. Knowles would make a basket for the Pirates which was answered by the Hornets. Hornets 18-6. Marissa Becher would put in the last 2 points of the first to make it 18-10 after 1.
The Pirates opened up the scoring in the second quarter as Becher made a basket to make it a 6 point game, Hornets 18-12. The Hornets would string together a 3, a free throw, and a 2 to move their lead back over double digits 24-12. The Pirates would cut into the Hornet lead when they would put together a 6 point run on baskets from Tegenkamp and Rose and free throws from Tegenkamp and Becher, Hornets 24-18. The Hornets would finish up the quarter with the quarters third 6 point run. Hornets 30-18 at half.
The third quarter had the Hornet put in the first basket which the Pirates followed up with baskets from Rose and Jensen Armey to make it 32-22. The Hornets would end the quarter on a 9 point run to take a 41-22 lead into the final quarter. The fourth quarte started with the Hornets putting in the first 5 points to make it a 46-22 lead. The Pirates would not get no closer than 20. Hornets 54-34 final.
Cheyenne Rose led the Pirates with 10 points while Bryn Tegenkamp put in 9. Marissa Becher scored 5, Reese Knowles and Jensen Armey 4 each, and Corinne Sprague 2. The Hornets hit seven 3 pointers while the Pirates did not make any. Continental was 8 -14 from the line while Cory Rawson was 3- 8.
Continental falls to 2-7 having their 2 game win streak broken. The Pirate will travel to Miller City on Thursday for a Putnam County League game. Cory Rawson improves to 7-3.
