There has been a significant change in the immunizations required for school attendance for students entering the 7th grade.
Most children entering 7th grade in Ohio have not yet received the Tdap or Td booster. The Director of the Ohio Department of Health updated the required immunizations for 7th grade school attendance to include a Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) or Td (tetanus and diphtheria) booster.
The Tdap booster is preferred of the two, because it provides vital protection against pertussis (also known as whooping cough).
This booster is available at your physician’s office or at county health departments. The Putnam County Health Department immunization clinics are held during the following hours. Please call them at 419-523-5608 to schedule an appointment.
First and third Tuesday of the month – 9:00 – 11:30 am and 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Second and fourth Tuesday of the month – 9:00 – 11:30 am and 1:00 – 6:00 pm
Fourth Wednesday of the month – 9:30 – 11:45 am
The health department asks that a donation of $10.00 be made. However, no child will be turned away for inability to pay.
Students planning to enter 7th grade this fall are encouraged to receive this immunization now rather than in the fall so it isn’t forgotten about over the summer. Please mail it to the school at 5211 SR 634 or present a copy of the shot record to the Continental High School office in the fall.
