Important Information Re: COVID-19 School Continuation For Elementary and JH/HS Students and Families

March 13, 2020 by Adam Donaldson

3-13-2020

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians:

As we navigate this unprecedented moment in time, the teachers and staff of Continental Schools are working hard to continue to provide educational opportunities for your students.  While the method of delivery will be different, the continued academic growth and development of your student or students is something we feel is very important.

Today, our teachers and staff spent the day beginning to put together educational resources, plans, and lessons that your students will be able to do from home.  Depending on the age/grade/ability level of your student, this may include instructional packets, websites, online materials, or other resources.  Our staff is working hard to make these lessons and activities meaningful while at the same time keep families from any undue stress while we are on this state-mandated shutdown.  Teachers, support staff, and administrators will be working from school and from home during this shutdown and will be available for questions, assistance, and feedback through a variety of ways.

In order to distribute these materials, the principals and teachers in the two buildings have developed a plan that is specific to the building that your student attends:

Elementary Students (Grades K-6):

  • K-2 students will receive a packet of materials as well as websites (optional for those students that do not have a device or wifi)  to practice skills.
  • Material for grades 3-6 will be delivered electronically and/or paper. If needed students are permitted to take home their Chromebooks and chargers for the duration of the shut down.
  • All materials (textbooks, Chromebooks, packets, etc)  can be picked up on Tuesday, March 17 from 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Teachers will be available at this time to answer questions. Please enter the building through the front entrance.
  • All grade cards will be sent home on Tuesday.
  • For those families that receive Packs for Pirates, those bags can be picked up with lesson materials on Tuesday.

JH/HS Students (Grades 7-12):

  • Most materials will be delivered electronically through school-issued iPads/Chromebooks.  If you do not have wifi access at home and cannot easily access wifi anywhere else, paper copies of materials will be provided for you.
  • All 7th and 8th graders will be permitted to take their Chromebooks and chargers home for the duration of the shutdown.
  • The building will be open on Tuesday, March 17th from 12:00pm-6:00pm for students/parents to come in and pick up materials that they will need to do their work (textbooks, iPads, Chromebooks, Chargers, notebooks, instruments, etc).  Students and/or parents are asked to enter through the breezeway/cafeteria entrance to briefly meet with teachers/pick up information and will have access to their lockers, locker room, and bandroom to get whatever belongings they need.
  • All JH/HS Teachers will be available in the school cafeteria during this time to distribute instruction/information sheets and answer questions.

We will continue to use our text alert system to notify parents of any new information pertaining to the education of your children. If you need to make other arrangements to pick up your student’s materials, please call the office on Monday.  We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate through this challenging situation.

Sincerely,

Tracy Potts                                Tim Eding
