Last year the OHSAA used an RPI method to determine seeding in the Northwest District. This year they have tweaked it up a little and are now using MAXPreps RPI for ranking purposes. The ranking is a score based upon the following equation:
40% WP + 35% OWP + 25% OOWP
WP is winning percentage, OWP is opponents winning percentage, OOWP is opponents opponents winning percentage (calculation is with the opponents of the team’s opponent.) This formula was developed by the coaches association and adopted by the OHSAA. If the tournament seeding was held today Putnam County League, teams would sweep the first 5 spots. It is interesting that Kalida has the highest Opponents winning percentage and Opponents Opponents winning percentage. Continental has played the 4th toughest schedule when you look at Opponents winning percentage. These numbers will be used for seeding at the tournament draw with teams assigning them to spots in the bracket on the basis of seeding (MAXpreps ranking).
