“It Happened Last Night” – Continental Board of Education March 17th Meeting

March 18, 2020 by Karen Donaldson

The regular meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 7:00 p.m. on March 17, 2020 in the administrative office. The meeting was called to order by president Dean Bidlack.

Mrs. Tracy Potts, Elementary Principal, reported:
•The Book Fair family night was well attended. We raised enough money from the Book Fair to provide a
book for every student.
•The Arts Festival was a big success. Congratulations to Mrs. Swonger and the elementary art students on
their artistic abilities.
•Dr. Joy Ellerbrock presented a program titled “Vinnie Vision” to third grade students.
•We had almost 99.2% of our families pick up their lessons today. Almost half of the students in grades 3-6
took home Chromebooks.

Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Principal, reported:
•Congratulations to the members of the Putnam County Honors Band and Honors Choir for great
performances at the Putnam County Fine Arts Festival. In addition, we had numerous students that had
artwork displayed in the county art show. Continental was very well represented!
•Thank you to Mr. Swonger for all his work with the County Band & Choir and to Mrs. Swonger for all of her
help with the Putnam County Art Show.
•The 3rd quarter ended on Thursday; grade cards will be finalized and published ASAP.
•100% of our students (and/or their parents) came to school today to pick up materials and instructions on
how we will deliver education over the next few weeks. I was so proud to see the way our students, parents,
and teachers came together to pull all of this off. I know there will be bumps in the road over the next couple
of weeks, but today was really something to see and I think a positive first step in dealing with this challenge
head-on.
•I literally cannot say enough positive things about our teachers, students, and parents. If nothing else, we
have certainly seen time and time again over the last week or so that our staff, students, and families have
risen to the occasion. We are BLESSED to have such a great group of teachers, staff, students, and
parents. I don’t know what is going to happen or where we will be in the coming weeks, but I am CERTAIN
that we will meet the challenge head-on and we will come out of this better than we started.
