It a perfect day on Main Street in Continental to celebrate Okuley’s Pharmacy’s 75 Anniversary. So many people gathered to share their memories – the old wooden booths covered with names carved in them on the top and all the wads of used gum on the underside, 5 cent ice cream cones, smiling faces, Blaine’s whistling talent, and most definitely cherry cokes beat out chocolate cokes as the favorite. Many shared that it was a treat to go to the soda fountain and many a times the trip was financed by a kind-hearted grandma. Many memories of Blaine and Neet and the Sunday after-church traffic to pick up a Sunday paper. State representatives Jim Hoops and Roy Klopfenstein stopped by to honor Okuley family’s years of service to the Continental community.
Thank you to Travis & Kieu for all you do for our community and for providing a wonderful afternoon to relive those cherished memories!
Photo – The fountain still works! It is a 1958 boat motor model.
