
His Legacy…
John Perry, 76, of Columbus Grove died on Thursday, February 16, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 1, 1947, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to the late James and Helen (Rice) Perry.
John was a 1965 graduate of Continental High School. After high school he served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1969. After the war, he began working at General Motors in Defiance, Ohio for the next 38 years. He was a member of the New Bavaria VFW and was involved in the RCIA. Some of his best memories were spent keeping up with his “Rotten” Grandkids, camping at Manapogo Park, singing karaoke anywhere he could, and spending winters in Yuma, Arizona, escaping the Ohio winters.
His Family…
On July 12, 1969, he married Barbara Thome at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Bavaria where they resided for 38 years. Together they have four children: Angie (David) Miller of Leipsic, Shelly (Joe) Gerdeman of Columbus Grove, Joshua Perry of Sandusky, and Amanda Clement of Atlanta, GA; seven grandchildren: Sienna Gerdeman, Erin Miller, Gage Gerdeman, Trinity Perry, Cobain Perry, Phillip Clement, and Bridger Niese. He is survived by his sister, Pat Rigel of Lima, and a sister-in-law, Sandra Perry of Continental. He is preceded in death by his siblings, James Perry, Retta (Bill) Etter, and Yvonne Perry, and a brother-in-law, Jim Rigel.
His Farewell Services…
A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria, with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by New Bavaria VFW. A visitation will be held on Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
