On Saturday the Pirates hosted the Riverdale Falcons in a Girls soccer match. Riverdale last year advanced to the Division III District Finals and showed that they have not lost a step this year. On a hot day both teams came out ready to play. Riverdale had the first good opportunity to score just 25 seconds into the game when they took a shot that was saved by the Pirate Goalie. At the 37:52 mark, Pirate Alex Hoeffel was tackled in the penalty box. Although the penalty kick was missed it did show that this was going to be a game with a lot of back and forth action. After both teams had good opportunities to score it was Riverdale that broke the goal plane with 26:29 on a goal off of a free kick. With 11:02 left in the first half Riverdale expanded their lead to 2-0 as they made a good play crossed the ball and had a player loft the ball over the Pirate goalie. The Pirates got on the board with 10:31 left on a Kaytlin Bibler shot for 15 to make it 2-1. Riverdale finished the half by scoring two additional goals (one off of a well placed corner kick and the other off of a throw in) to take a 4-1 lead at half.
The second half had Riverdale expanding their lead to 5-1 10 minutes into the half on a counter attack where the ball was hit over the Pirate goalie. Pirate Alex Hoeffel made it 5-2 at 24:27 left in the game as she hit one in from the 25. The Falcons ended the days scoring at the 19:11 mark some nice passing that ended up with a shot from the center of goal.
Continental moves to 1-1 on the season and will host Wauseon on Tuesday. Riverdale is 1-0.
