
Saturday was a slow start for the Continental High Girls basketball as host Upper Scioto Valley put in the first 6 points. Morgan Shock put the Pirates on the board with a pair of free throws and Mackenzie Shock followed up with a steal and a basket to make it 6-4 Rams. A Ram basket and pair of free throws pushed their lead back to 6 points 10-4. A pair of Mackenzie Shock baskets and a pair of Rams free throws finished off the first quarter scoring. Rams 12-8 after 1.
It was all Pirates in the second quarter as the Pirates outpointed the Rams 17-5. Olivia Crossgrove scored 7, Makenzie Shock 5, Kamryn Searfoss 3, and Kinley Stegbauer to total the 17. Pirates 25-17 at half. The Rams would come out of the locker room and score the first 8 points of the second half and 11 0f the first 13 to take a 28-27. After Makenzie Shock put in the Pirates first basket of the half the Pirate offense finished off the quarter by scoring 11 points while holding the Rams to 8. Makenzie Shock scored 8 in the third quarter while Morgan Shock added a 3 and Kinley Stegbauer added a basket. Pirates 38-36 after 3.
Olivia Crossgrove started the fourth quarter scoring with a pair of baskets. Pirates 42-36. A 3 by the Rams cut the Pirate lead by half 42-39. The Pirates would go 6-8 from the line to salt away the victory with Mackenzie Shock, Olivia Crossgrove and Kinely Stegabuer all making 2. The Rams would add 3 to their total. Pirates 48-42 final.
Makenzie Shock led the Pirates with 21 points including one 3 pointer. Olivia Crossgrove added 13 points and unoffically 10 rebounds. Kinley Stegbauer scored 6. Morgan Shock scored 5 with a 3 pointer. Kamryn Searfoss hit a 3 point shot. Both teams made three 3 pointers. The Pirates were 9-16 from the foul line while the Rams were 9-14.
Continental improves to 1-2 and will travel to defending DVI State Champion and Putnam County League Rival Columbus Grove on Tuesday. Upper Scioto Valley falls to 0-2.
