The second quarter was the difference in the 8th grade Putnam County League Championship game held at Kalida St. Mike’s gym. Kalida opened up the game with the first basket before Continental rolled off the next 10 points. Addyson Armey got the Pirates on the board first with a free throw, part of her 5 point first quarter effort. The Wildcats scored the last 2 points of the quarter for a Pirate 10-4 lead. The Pirates would score all the points in the second quarter as they stretched their lead to 17-4 at half. Alex Hoeffel had scored 5 points in the first quarter and matched that in the second to lead the Pirates. Kalida would outscore the Pirates 12-7 in the third quarter behind Abby Wurth 8 point effort in the third. 24-16 Pirates at the end of three. The Pirates would outscore the by 2 in the final quarter for a 31-20 final.
Alex Hoeffel led the Pirates with 12 points (two – 3 pointers). Addyson Armey added 10 points (one 3 pointer). Mackenzie Rayle put in 4 while Kennedy Hiltner and Kerri Prowant had 2 points each. Katie Keller had 1 point. Natalie Speiser played but did not score.
The Pirates finish the season 12-4 and are coached by Ben Schwarzman. Congratulations!
