Lady Pirates Add One to the Win Column

January 28, 2018 by Karen Donaldson

On Saturday it was a great day to be a Lady Pirate as the girls picked up their first Putnam County League victory of the year. The visiting Pandora Gilboa Rockets won the tip but it was the Pirates who got on the board first by hitting the first 7 points. Amber Logan put in 4 points of the 7 point run while Kaitlyn Alvarado put in 2 and Addyson Armey had 1. A Rocket basket stopped the Pirate run but that was the lone Rocket point for the quarter as the Pirates closed the first with 7 more points as Logan put in 4 more and Alex Hoeffel hit a 3. Pirates 14, Rockets 2 after 1.

The start of the second had the Pirates put in the first 10 points to take a 24-2 lead. Alvarado put in 4 points of the 10 points and Brooke Bradford, Kerri Prowant, and Catelyn Etter all contributed a basket. The Rockets put in a free throw that was matched by an Etter free throw, Pirates 25-3. Another Rocket free throw was met with another Etter basket to make it 27-4 Pirates. The Rockets would outscore the Pirates 6-3 (Hoefffel 2, Etter 1) to make it Continental 30, Pandora Gilboa 10 at half.

The third quarter had the Pirates put in the first 6 points as Etter made a basket, Alvarado both made a free throw, and Armey had a 3 point play. A Rocket basket was met with 3 points from the Pirates as Logan hit a free throw and Armey a basket, Pirate 39, Rockets 12. A Rocket basket would end their scoring in the third at 14 but the Pirates were not done as they closed the quarter with a 8 point run as Hoeffel put in 4, Alvarado 2, and Logan 2 to make it Continental 47 Pandora Gilboa 14 after 3.

The Rockets outpointed the Pirates 13 to 11 in the final quarter to make it a Continental 58, Pandora Gilboa 27 final.

Amber Logan led the Pirates with 14 points, Kaitlyn Alvarado, Alex Hoeffel and Catelyn Etter all had 9. Addyson Armey had 8 points, Brooke Bradford 4, Madi Potts 3, and Ketti Prowant 2. Logan, Hoeffel, and Potts made one 3 pointer each.

Continental improves to 2-14 (1-5 PCL) and will host Lima Temple Christian on Monday. Note this is a Varsity only event and tipoff will be at 6:30. Pandora falls to 3-13 (1-4 PCL).
