
An injury depleted Continental High Girls Basketball team hosted Kalida in their Senior night ceremony. Seniors Ella Siefer, Mckenzie Shock and Olivia Crossgrove were recognized before the Varsity-only game. The Pirates suited up 8 healthy players. It was all Wildcats at the start as they put in a pair of 3s to take an early 6-0 lead. A 3 point play by Olivia Crossgrove cut the lead to 3. The Wildcats would score the last 17 points of the quarter to take a 20-3 into the second quarter. The second quarter had the Wildcats open up with a basket that was followed by a basket from Morgan Shock. Wildcats 22-5. A 3 by the Wildcats put them up by 20, 25-5. The Pirates would get 3s from Kamryn Searfoss and Morgan Shock to cut the Wildcat lead to 14, 25-11. The Wildcats would put in the final 11 points of the half. Wildcats 36-11.
A tight second half had both teams put up 14 points in the third quarter with the Pirates putting up the first 9 points by going inside with Crossgrove making 3 baskets and Kinley Stegbauer a 3 point play. Wildcats 36-20. A Wildcat pair of free throws was followed up by a Stegbauer 3. Wildcats up by 15, 38-23. The Wildcats would put in the next 12 points to claim a 27 point lead 50-23. Crossgrove would put in her 8 point of the quarter with a basket. Wildcats 50-25 after 3. The Wildcats took the fourth by a close 10-9 margin with Crossgrove going 4-4 from the line and making a basket and Mckenzie Shock making a basket. Wildcats 60-34 final.
Senior Olivia Crossgrove led the Pirates with 17 points. Freshman Kinley Stegbauer added 6 points. Junior Morgan Shock scored 5. Senior Mckenzie Shock and Sophomore Kamryn Searfoss both scored 3. The pirates made four 3 pointers with Stegbauer, Searfoss, Mckenzie Shock and Morgan Shock all making 1. The Wildcats made 6. The Pirates were a perfect 6-6 from the line while the Wildcats were 9-15.
Continental finishes the regular season at 7-15 (0-7 PCL) and will travel to Delphos St Johns in a OHSAA DVII Sectional Final. Gametime is 2 pm. Kalida improves to 12-10 (4-3 PCL).
