Lady Pirates End Regular Season With a PCL Loss

Thursday marked the end of the regular season for both host Kalida and visiting Continental Girls Basketball.  The Wildcats came into the game in second place in the Putnam County League while the Pirates were looking for their second PCL win of the year.  The Wildcats opened up their Senior night by making the first 2 baskets.  The Pirates would get on the board with a basket from Reese Knowles.  Wildcats 4-2. The Wildcats would string in the next 7 points to take an 11-2 lead.  The Pirates would get a basket from Bryn Tegenkamp and a free throw from Cheyenne Rose to make it a 6 point game 11-5 Wildcats.  The Wildcats would get a basket at the buzzer for a 13-5 Wildcat lead after 1.  The second quarter was all Wildcats as they would put in 20 points to the Pirates 2 (a basket by Olivia Logan).
The Pirates would take the third quarter by scoring the first 5 points, 2 baskets by Knowles and a free throw by Olivia Crossgrove, while holding the Wildcats to 4.  Wildcats 37-12 after 3. The Pirates opened up the fourth quarter scoring with a Tegenkamp basket to make it 37-14.  The Wildcats would put in a 3 and a free throw.  Wildcats 41-14.  Tegenkamp would make a pair of free throws for the Pirates.  Wildcats 41-16.  After the Wildcats would drain a 3, Mackenzie Shock would make a basket for the Pirates.  Wildcats 44-18.  A pair of Wildcat baskets would put them up by 30 , 48-18.  The Pirates would  Crossgrove made a basket to make Wildcats 48-20.  The Wildcats would make another pair of baskets while Shock would finish off the night’s scoring with a basket.  Wildcats 52-22.
Bryn Tegenkamp and Reese Knowles led the Pirates with 6 point.  Makenzie Shock would put in 4 points, Olivia Crossgrove 3, Olivia Logan 2 and Cheyenne Rose 1.  The Pirates did not make a 3 while the Wildcats hit 4.
Continental falls to 3-19 (1-6 PCL).  The Pirates will open tournament action on Wednesday when the play Delphos St Johns at 6:00 at Bluffton University.  Kalida improves to 16-6 (6-1 PCL).
Congrats to Pirate Seniors Bryn Tegenkamp, Reese Knowles, Macie Cordes, Olivia Logan and Cheyenne Rose.  Here’s hoping for a long tournament run.
