
Lady Pirates 35, Fostoria Redmen 52
Friday night had the Continental High Girls travel east to Fostoria for a season opening non league game. The second half was the difference in this battle as it was a 2 point game at half. The Pirates and the Redmen battled to a tie in the first quarter 8-8. The Redmen took a slight advantage into the locker room at half as the Redmen outpointed the Pirates 13-11 in the second quarter for a 21-19 Redmen advantage at half. The third quarter saw the Redmen going into the fourth quarter with a 10 point lead 35-25. The Redmen took the fourth and the game. Redmen 52, Pirates 35 final.
Continental was led in scoring by Maddie Burke who put in 17 points. Bryn Tegenkamp and Ali Scott both had 7, Madelyn Potts and Liv Logan 2 each. Scott hit the only 3 pointer in the game.
Continental was 13 of 53 from the field (24.5%) and 8 of 20 from the line (40%). Continental out rebounded the Redmen 48-17 with Burke pulling in 24 rebounds. Burke’s 24 boards is a new school single game record.
Continental falls to 0-1 and will next play their home opener on Saturday against Lincolnview. Fostoria is now 1-0.
Lady Pirates 19, Lincolnview Lancers 43
On Saturday night the home opener for the Continental High Girls Basketball had the Pirates take an early lead, fight back and then struggle in the second half. The Pirates won the tip but it was the Lincolnview Lancers who made the first basket. The Pirates took the early lead when Madelyn Potts made a free throw and that was followed up by a Pirate Bryn Tegenkamp 3 for a 4-2 Pirate advantage. The Lancers would then put in the next 14 points to make it 16-4 Lancers. Tegenkamp would stop the Lancer run with a basket and it was followed up with the Pirates scoring the last 5 points of the first quarter. Potts would make a basket for the Pirates during the run with Pirate Maddie Burke scoring the final 3 points for a Lancer 16, Pirates 11 score after 1. Burke would put in the first 4 points of the second quarter on a pair of basket to pull the Pirates within 1, 16-15. The Lancers would only score one basket in the second quarter to make it 18-15 Lancers after 2. It was all Lancers in the second half as the Pirate offense could only muster single baskets in each quarter while the Lancers would pour in 25 points. Lancers 43, Pirates 19 final.
Continental was led by Maddie Burke and Bryn Tegenkamp with 7 points each. Maddie Potts put in 5 points.
The Pirates were 8 of 33 from the field and 2 of 11 from the line. The Pirates outrebounded the Lancers 24 to 19. Potts had 7 rebounds to lead the Pirates.
Continental drops to 0-2 and will next host Columbus Grove on Tuesday December 1st in a Putnam County League game. Note the non league game against Hicksville on Tuesday has been cancelled. Lincolnview improves to 1-0.
