
A big first inning by host Continental put them in position to control the Putnam County League Softball game against Ottoville. A powerful combination of hitting, patience at the plate and speed was the name of the game for the Pirates. Continental opened up the scoring with 8 runs in the first. The Pirates offense added 5 more runs in the second to take a 13-0 lead. The Pirates added on 3 more runs in the third for a 16-0 lead. A scoreless fourth inning and a pair of Big Green runs in the fifth left the Pirates with the 16-2 victory.
The Pirates had 9 hits, 9 walks and 9 stolen bases. Raegen Clemens led the Pirates with 2 hits (one a homer), 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, 1 walk and 1 stolen base. Mallorie Barnhart had 2 hits (1 a double), 2 runs scored, 3 RBIS, 1 walk, and a stolen base. Gracie Homier hit a double, scored 3 runs, 3 RBIS, 3 walks and a stolen base. Kimberly Grant hit a single, scored 3 runs, stole 3 bases and earned 2 walks. Kaitlyn Bidlack hit a single, scored 2 runs, 1 RBI, 1 walk and 1 stolen base. Ella Seifer had a single and 1 RBI. Macie Clemens hit a single, scored a 1, and stole a base. Becca Stark scored 2 runs, 1 RBI, and had 1 walk. Lily Lamond scored a run and stole a base.
Pitcher Gracie Homier held the Big Green to 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits and had 9 strikeouts. The Big Green committed 3 errors to the Pirates 1. Continental improves to 1-1 (1-0 PCL) on the season and will travel to Stryker on Friday. Ottoville falls to 0-4 (0-1 PCL).
