Lady Vikings Hold Off Pirate Rally

On Saturday Leipsic Girls Varsity entered the Putnam County League game against Continental with a 13-1 record, top place in Ottawa Glandorf D-IV District Martin RPI ranking and #4 in the D-IV NorthWest Ohio Region.  Continental was looking for their first win.  It was all Vikings in the first 3 quarters but the Pirates had a strong showing in the fourth.  The Pirates Cheyene Rose opened up the scoring with a basket.  The Vikings would put in the next 15 points to take a 15-2 lead.  But that was all the points the Vikings would score in the first quarter as the Pirates would get the last 5 points on a Makenzie Shock basket and a 3 by Rose.  Vikings 21-7 after 1.
The Vikings would open up the second quarter by putting in the first 6 points to take a 21-7 lead.  A basket by Reese Knowles would make it 21-9 Vikings.  The Vikings would put together an 8 point run to expand their lead to 20, 29-9.  The Pirates would have a 5 point run to cut the Viking lead to 15, 29-14.  Knowles made a basket and Macie Cordes a 3 to fuel the run.  The Vikings would finish out the first half scoring with a 3. Vikings 32-14 at the break.
The Vikings would open up the second half by scoring the first 5 points to take a 37-14 lead.  The two teams would finish the quarter by both scoring 4 point with the Pirates getting a pair of free throws from Bryn Tegenkamp and a basket by Olivia Crossgrove.  Vikings 41-18 after 3.
The Pirates would take the fourth quarter but the Vikings opened up the scoring with a basket to take a 25 point lead 43-18.  Tegenkamp would start the Pirates scoring with a 3 to make it Vikings 43-21.  A pair of baskets by the Vikings would be followed up by a Tegenkamp 3, Vikings 47-21.  A Tegenkamp 3 was matched by the Vikings.  Vikings 50-24.  The Pirates would put in the next 13 points as Tegenkamp would add 7 to her total, Cordes would hit a 3,  Crossgrove a pair of free throws and Destiny Pier a free throw.  Vikings 50-37 final.
Bryn Tegenkamp would lead the Pirates with 15 points,  Macie Cordes scored 6, Cheyenne Rose 5, Olivia Crossgrove and Reese Knowles 4 each, Makenzie Shock 2, and Destiny Pier 1.  Continental made six 3s with Tegenkamp making 3, Cordes 2, and Rose 1.  The Vikings also made six 3s.  The Pirates were 9-13 from the line with Tegenkamp making 6-7.  Continental falls to 0-15 (0-5 PCL) and will host Antwerp on Tuesday.  Leipsic improves to 14-1 (5-0 PCL).
