
A great start by Continental High Girls Basketball went to the wayside as the host Kalida used defense to propel them to the OHSAA DVII Ottawa Glandorf District Semifinal. It was the #8 seed Pirates who got the scoring started as they went inside against #3 seed Kalida and got a basket from Junior Olivia Crossgrove. A 3 by the Wildcats put them up by 1, 3-2. Senior Ava Sheeter would put the Pirates back up with a basket Pirates 4-3. Then it was all Wildcats. The Wildcats would finish off the 1st quarter scoring with a 14 point run. Wildcats 17-4 after 1. The Wildcats would put in the first 5 points of the second quarter to take a 22-4 lead. Crossgrove put in a second basket to make it 22-6. The Wildcats would score the last 13 points of the half. Wildcats 35-6 at half. The Wildcats would put in the only points in the third and had a 51-6 lead heading into quarter 4. Wildcats would add 4 points to their total in the fourth while the Pirates would get a basket from Freshman Cassie Pier. Wildcats 55-8 final.
Olivia Crossgrove led the Pirates with 4 points. Ava Sheeter and Cassie Pier both scored 2 points. The Pirates did not make a 3 while the Wildcats put in 7. The Wildcats were 11-18 from the line while the Pirates were 0-9.
Continental falls to 3-19. Kalida improves to 15-6. #3 seed Kalida will take on #4 seed North Baltimore 16-7 in the DVII District Semifinals at Ottawa Glandorf on Thursday. The other side of the District bracket has #1 seed Miller City 16-7 will play #2 seed McComb 18-5.
This game marks the last time that Seniors Ava Sheeter, Becca Stark and Ashlyn Dudgeon suit up for the Pirates. Thanks for the hard fought season and good luck in your future endeavors!
