
Following the same script as the night before when Continental High boys rallied to tie the game at half against Hicksville only to have the Aces control the second half played true on Saturday night when Continental hosted Lincolnview in their home opener. The Pirates opened up the night’s scoring with a a basket from Carson Etter and a free throw from Monty Rayle to take an early 3-0 lead. It was all Lancers next as they made 2 baskets and converted two 3 point plays to take a 10-3 lead. The Pirates would close the gap with a 3 from Monty Rayle to make it 10-6 Lancers. The Lancers would hit a 3 but the Pirates would close the gap again with a Monty Rayle basket and 3. The Lancers would make the last 2 of the quarter. Lancers 15-11 after 1.
The second quarter belonged to the Pirates as they came out to score the first 8 points of the quarter on a Carson Etter basket and a pair of 3s from Jonathon Etter. Pirates 19-15. The Lancers would have a rally themselves as they would score 3 baskets to retake the lead 21-19. Monty Rayle would make it a 1 point game with a made free throw. A basket by the Lancers was followed by a Monty Rayle free throw and a Carson Etter basket. 23 all at half.
The second half had the Lancer rip off the first 12 points to take a 35-23 lead. The Pirates would make it a 10 point game when Carson Etter would make a basket. 35-25 Lancers. A Lancer basket was followed up by a Tyson Clementz basket Lancers 37-27. A pair of Lancer baskets was followed by a pair of Jonathon Etter free throws for a 41-29 score at the end of 3.
The fourth quarter had the Pirates cut the Lancer lead to 10 with a Jonathon Etter basket 41-31 Lancers. The Lancer put in 15 of the next 17 points with the Pirates getting a basket from Monty Rayle. Lancers 56-33. The Pirates would close the score when they would get pairs of baskets from Monty Rayle and Jonathon Etter to make it Lancer 56-41. The Lancers would make a basket to finish off the scoring. Lancers 58-41 final.
Monty Rayle led the Pirates with 17 points, Jonathon Etter had 14, Carson Etter 8 and Tyson Clementz 2. Monty Rayle and Jonathon Etter both made a pair of 3s for the Pirates. The Lancers also made 4. The Pirates were 5-10 from the line while the Lancers were 6-7.
Continental falls to 0-4 and will host Fairview on Friday. Linclonview improves to 1-2.
Maverick Grant did an excellent job singing the National Anthem. It was Continental Fire Department Toys for Tots night, it was awesome seeing all the toys that were brought to the game.
