
On Saturday the Continental High School Boys Basketball team held their home opener against Lincolnview. The Lancers started out the scoring by hitting a 3 but the Pirates roared back to take a 6-3 lead. Reed Warnement, Caleb Olds, and Mitchell Coleman all made baskets for the Pirates. A basket by the Lancers was followed by a Nick States free throw making it 7-5 Pirates. The Lancer regained the lead with a 3 only to have the Pirates take back the lead on an Olds 3. A Lancer basket made it 10-10 at the end of one.
The Pirates opened the second quarter with an Alex Hale basket to take a 12-10 lead. That would be the last Pirate lead of the night as Lincolnview scored the next 7 points to take a 17-12 lead. A Pirate 3 by Coleman made it 17-15 but that was the last Pirate points for the quarter as the Lancers put in the final 4 points to make it 21-15. The big difference in the second quarter was Lincolnview was 6-6 from the line while the Pirates were 0-2.
The third saw the Pirates open the quarter with a basket by States to cut the Lancer lead to 4 21-17. The Lancers and Pirates traded baskets to maintain the 4 point spread with Warnement hitting for the Pirates. An 11 point run by the Lancers was stopped when Hale got the Pirates back on the board to end the quarter. The score after 3 Lancers 34, Pirates 21.
The Pirates opened up the fourth with States hitting a pair of free throws to make it 34-23 Lancers. The Lancers put in a basket that was followed by Jarrett Keck hitting a pair of free throws to make it 36-25. A Lancer 2 was countered by a Keck free throw to make it 38-26 Lancers. A four point run by the Lancers gave them the nights biggest lead at 42-26. A basket by Keck stopped the Lancer run but that was met by a Lancer basket making it 44-28 Lancers. An Olds free throw was met with a Lancer free throw to make it 45-29. The Pirates ended up scoring 6 of the last 7 to make the final score Lancers 46, Pirates 36.
Caleb Olds led the Pirates with 11 points while Mitchell Coleman put in 7. Jarrett Keck and Nick States both had 5 points while Reed Warnement and Alex Hale both had 4. Olds and Coleman both hit one 3 pointer.
Continental falls to 0-4 and will host Fairview on Friday. Lincolnview improves to 2-1.
