A pair of undefeated teams whose only blemish on their record was a tie between them met Sunday for the Ohio Athletic Conference Womens Soccer Tournament Title. With no NCAA Division III tournament this game would be the season final for Otterbein University and Ohio Northern University. A low scoring game was expected as the two teams previous meeting resulted in 110 minutes of scoreless action. It wasn’t till the waning moments of the second half would the Cardinals hit the back of the next.
The game started with the Polar Bears controlling the action in the first half as they outshot the Cardinals 8-5 with a 4-0 advantage on shots on goal. The second half was played at a more even pace as the Cardinals outshot the Polar Bears 6-4 while both teams put 2 shots on goal. At the 83:33 mark The Cardinals took the ball down the south west corner of the pitch and then made a perfect center pass to an open forward who converted the attempt. The game was not over as the Polar Bears would have 2 great opportunities to even the score but could not convert.
Otterbein claimed the OAC championship with the 1-0 victory. Both teams were awarded regular season championship trophies as they tied in the regular season. Otterbein finished the season at 10-0-1 while the Polar Bears finished at 8-1-2.
Continental Grad Alex Hoeffel finished the game with 1 shot and 1 shot on goal. She ended up the Polar Bears 2nd highest scorer (3 goals) and points (8). Alex is a freshman.
