This newspaper article describes a “new” business venture in Continental. Thank you, Todd Bidlack for sharing it with the eNews:
Continental – Two Continental men, Jim Ruen and Charles “Spark” Etter, of Ruen and Etter, Inc., are turning a 10-acre wasteland into a trailer park. The new park, located in the northeast part of Continental, will temporarily be called Mobile Manor Trailer Park.
About 30,000 cubic yards of dirt was used to fill in the low, swampy ground, which had been covered with weeds and tall grass.
Each lot will be about 5,500 feet square and will have underground water, telephone and power lines. When completed, it will have 46 trailers. Three trailers have been moved in and more are expected in the near future. The nation average cost for this type unit is $2,800, according to Ruen and Etter.
Also included in the park will be an office and two half-acre recreational areas. Each unit will have a two-car parking pad and a patio.

Additional note from the “Centennial History, Continental 1886-1986”: The first mobile home moved into place August 24, 1971. Ruen & Etter turned over the keys to Mr. & Mrs. Robert Hutchinson and their daughter, Robin. The Hutchinsons are affiliated with the new SOCAR plant in Continental.
