
KALIDA – Mary Kay Unverferth, 71, of Kalida, passed away at 6:20 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. She was born July 20, 1951 in Ottoville, to the late Lawrence and Gertrude (Bedink) Brinkman. On May 27, 1972, she married Virgil “Rick” Unverferth, Jr. who survives in Kalida.
Survivors include three daughters: Dr. Alison (Andy) Niemeyer, Adriene (Sean) Swyers and Angela (Matt) Schnipke, all of Kalida; eight grandchildren: Jakob, Isabelle, Gabrielle, Adalynn and Lauryn Swyers, Camryn Niemeyer, Virginia and Nicholas Schnipke; a stepbrother, Dan Kistler of Powell, TN; In-laws: Barb (Denny) Potts of Continental, Randy (Barb) Unverferth, Roger (Lisa) Unverferth, Deb (John) McIntyre, all of Kalida and Rod (Tricia) Unverferth of Anna, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a nephew, Chris Potts.
Mary Kay retired from St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, where she worked as a registered nurse in the Emergency Department and Cath Lab for over 39 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Mary Kay was an avid baker and was a blessing to others with her always perfect baked goods. She loved being outside, whether that be gardening or walking. If Mary Kay met you, she loved you! She will be dearly missed by her friends and family.
Funeral Mass will begin 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Nathan Bockrath officiating. Burial will be at a later date at St. Michael Cemetery, Kalida. Visitation will be from 2 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
