From the Continental Elementary Facebook page:
After many months of planning and training Continental Elementary would like to introduce our newest staff member – MEMPHIS!!
Memphis is a trained therapy dog that is owned by Mrs. Tegan Huff. Memphis will spend her days at Continental Elementary with Mrs. Huff, Mrs. Schmidt, Mrs. Potts and other trained handlers. Memphis will have many beneficial traits to offer the students and staff at Continental, a few of these benefits are listed below:
• Physical – interaction with a therapy dog reduces blood pressure, assists with pain management, gives motivation to move, walk and stimulates the senses
• Social – a visit with a dog provides a positive mutual topic for discussion and focused interaction with others
• Cognitive – companionship with a dog stimulates memory, problem solving and game playing
• Emotional – a dog improves self-esteem, acceptance from others and often provokes laughter
• Environmental – a dog in a facility increases the feeling of a safe environment and lifts mood
Strict guidelines will be adhered to in order to ensure the safety of all students, staff, visitors, and Memphis!
All students MUST have a permission form signed in order to interact with Memphis. Please stop at Mrs Schmidt’s table at open house on 8/15 from 4pm-6pm in order to sign the form!
