
Girls Soccer: Lady Pirates 2, Defiance 1
On Saturday Continental High School Girls soccer team traveled to Defiance to take on the Bulldogs in non league action. After a scoreless first half Pirate Alex Hoeffel broke the tie at the 39:42 mark. Hoeffel scored again later in the half to make it 2-0 Pirates before Bulldog Breanna Fortman put one by the Pirate goalie with 1:10 left.
In a game that saw Defiance control the action, the Pirate defense stepped up to the task as goalie Ashley Mansfield made 12 saves. Defiance had 16 shots on goal compared to the Pirates 8.
Continental moves to 5-1 and hosts Van Buren on Monday in non league action. Defiance is now 3-2-1.
Notes: The game at Defiance was moved from a 10:00 start to 12:00 start at allow for the players to take the ACT tests.
Volleyball:
On Thursday night the Continental High School Volleyball team traveled to the Tinora High School for a non-league match-up. The Pirates started the match off looking for the upset as they beat the undefeated Rams in the first game 26-24. Tinora battled back to take the second game 25-18 and the third game 25-14. The Rams finished off the match in 4 games as they finished off the Pirates 25-11.
The Pirates are now 3-4 and host Lima Temple Christian on Saturday. The Rams are now 7-0.
Lady Pirates 25-14, 25-18, 25-19
On Saturday Continental High School played host to the Lima Temple Christian Pioneers in non-league Volleyball action. The Pirates opened up the match by taking the first game 25-14. The second game was 25-18 Pirates. The Pirates completed the sweep by taking the Pioneers 25-19 in the third game.
Sydney Eickholt led the Pirates with 10 kills and 6 assists. Amber Logan had 7 kills while Leah Baker had 6. Jessica Stauffer had 26 assists . Breanne Eickholt and Leah Baker both had 2 blocks. Alivia Homier was 15-17 in serving with 2 aces. Hannah Troyer was 15-15 serving and had 143 digs.
The Pirates move to 4-4 and will travel to Kalida to for their first Putnam County League matchup. The Pioneers fall to 1-8.
Boys Soccer: Pirate Boys Soccer move to 5-1
On Thursday night Continental High School hosted the Fort Jennings Musketeers in Putnam County League Boys Soccer action. Another hot early September day saw the Pirates pepper the goal with 15 shots compared to 3 shots by the Musketeers. Pirates scored a pair of goals in each half for the 4-0 win. Tyler Brecht and Jarret Keck both got a pair of goals while Konnor Okuley got a pair of assists. Tyler Brecht and Chris Potts also assisted on the Pirates goals.
Continental is now 5-1 (2-0 PCL) and next travels to Ottoville on Monday for another key Putnam County League matchup. Fort Jennings falls to 2-4 (1-1 PCL).
The game against Ottoville will be on Zsportslive. A Pirate win on Monday will clinch at least a tie for the Putnam County League Championship.
