On Friday, October 10th, Okuley’s Pharmacy will celebrate 75 years serving the Continental community! In 1950 Blaine Okuley purchased the McDowell Pharmacy business at 106 South Main Steet, purchasing the building some years later. On New Year’s Eve in 1969 a fire destroyed several businesses on Main Street – a hardware/dime store, a tavern and the drug store building was badly damaged. In 1971 Blaine put up a new building at the same location. (from “Centennial History, Continental Ohio 1886-1986).
A ad placed by the Okuley Rexall Drug Store in the 1966 Pirate yearbook lists the following goods and services: Complete Line of Merchandise, Complete Soda Fountain, Ice Cream, 24 Hour Film Service, Baby Needs – Supplies, Veterinary Service. The business has evolved over the years, ever changing to meet the needs of those they serve daily. Congratulations Okuley Pharmacy!
To celebrate, Okuley’s Pharmacy will be serving a lunch from 12:00 – 2:00pm. If you have a memory you would like to share (most of us have been going there since we were kids), please do in the comments!
