Sports — A quick start Saturday afternoon had the Lady Pirates scoring 4 of the first 6 points of the game as Addyson Armey and Amber Logan found the bottom of the nets for a 4-2 lead. Paulding then scored the next 8 points to take a 6 point lead. A 3 pointer by Logan and a basket by Jaylen Armey made it a 1 point game Panthers 10 Pirates 9. The teams then traded points (Pirates A Armey hit a pair of free throw). The Panthers took a 4 point (16-12) lead when they scored 2 baskets around an A. Armey made free throw. Logan finished up the scoring in the first by hitting a basket making it 16-14 Panthers.
A. Armey made the first to points of the second to tie the game at 16. A Panther 8 point run was stopped when Brooke Bradford hit a basket Panthers 24, Pirates 18. The Pirates and Panthers split the next 4 points as Kaitlyn Alvarado made a pair of free throws. The Panther had a 5 point run before Ashley Mansfield hit a 2 before the buzzer making it Paulding 31, Pirates 22 at half. All but 2 of the Panthers points came from 2 girls playing in the paint.
A change in defense yielded results for the Pirates as J. Armey made the first 2 of the half. A Panther basket was followed by a Pirate 9 point run. Logan got a 4 point play, A. Armey a pair of free throw, and a 3 pointer Bradford evened the score at 33. The Panthers hit 7 of the last 9 points of the quarter (Bradford put in a 2) to make it Panthers 40, Pirates 35 after 3.
The Pirates would score the first 3 points of the 4th (Logan 2 free throws and A. Armey free throw) to make it a 2 point game (Panther 40, Pirates 38). A Panther basket was countered by a Logan free throw to make it 41-38 Panthers. A 6 point Panther run was stopped when Logan made a pair of free throws. Another 4 points by the Panthers finished off their scoring for the day at 52. The Pirates made two out of four free throws for a Panther 52, Pirates 43 final.
Amber Logan had 17 to lead the Pirates, Addyson Armey put in 11. Brooke Bradford had 7, Jaylen Armey 4, and Ashley Mansifeld and Kaitlyn Alvarado 2 each. Amber Logan mad a pair of 3 pointers while Brooke Bradford made 1.
Continental falls to 2-16 and will travel to Wayne Trace on Tuesday. Paulding improve to 4-15.
