Panthers Over Lady Pirates By 15

On Saturday Continental High played host to Paulding in nonleague Girls Varsity Basketball action. The Pirates were coming in with a 2 game winning streak and were looking to get win number 4 for the season. The Panthers put the first points on the board but Pirate Addyson Armey made a basket to make it 2 all. Another Panther basket was met with a Pirate 5 point run as Kaitlyn Alvarado made a 2 and Armey hit a 3, 7-4 Pirates. Both teams hit a free throw (Amber Logan for the Pirates) then the Panthers made a basket to make it a 1 point game Pirates 8, Panthers 7. A Brooke Bradford free throw put the Pirates at 9 then the Panther put in 5 to take the lead for good, Panthers 12, Pirates 9. A basket by Alex Hoeffel made it a 1 point Panther lead but that was followed by a Panther 4 point run, Panthers 16, Pirates 11. An Armey 3 finished the Pirate total for the quarter while the Panthers put in a basket at the buzzer. Panther 18, Pirates 14 after 1.

Pirate Brooke Bradford opened the second quarter scoring by hitting a 3 to make it a one point Panther the lead. The Panthers went on a 6 point run that was stopped when Logan put in a basket, Panther 24-19. A Panther 3 was met by a Pirate 6 point run (Logan 4, Hoeffel 2) to make it a 2 point game, 27-25. The Panther finished up the scoring by putting in the last 4 points of the quarter (including another basket at the buzzer) . Panther 31, Pirates 25 at half.

The Panther put in the first 10 points of the second half to open up a 16 point lead. A 3 by Kerri Prowant stopped that run and made the score 41-28 Panthers. Only 6 more points were scored in the third as both the Pirates (Catelyn Etter) and Panthers put in a pair baskets so it was Panthers 45, Pirates 30 after 3.

In the fourth the Pirates did not put in a basket but did outscore the Panthers 6-5. Paulding 50, Continental 35 final.

Addyson Armey led the Pirates with 9 points while Amber Logan and Alex Hoeffel both had 8. Brooke Bradford put in 4, Kerri Prowant 3, and Kaitlyn Alvarado and Catelyn Etter 2 each. Armey hit two 3 pointers while Logan and Prowant both hit 1.

Continental falls to 3-15 and will host Wayne Trace on Tuesday in a non league game. Paulding improves to 6-13. Paulding took the Junior Varsity game 25-15.

Halftime of both games had the Continental and Paulding 5th and 6 grade teams battling it out in a friendly scrimmage. The game was broadcast on WPAU.
