Monday had Continental High hosting Paulding in non league softball action. A close game at the start turned the Panthers way in the later innings. The Panthers opened up the game by plating a run in their half of the first. The Pirates opened up their season first at bat with a home run by Gracie Homier. Tie after one at 1 all. It was all Panthers then as they plated a single run in the second to take a 2-1 lead. A solo run in the third and a pair of runs in the fourth made it 5-1 after 4 innings. A pair of 4 run innings in the 5th and 6th finished off the game with the Panthers taking the 13-1 win.
G Homier went 5.2 innings for the complete game giving up 13 runs(9 earned) on 14 hits and struck out 6 Panthers. The Pirates made 3 errors. The Pirates had a pair of hits with G Homier belting a home run and L Lamond a double. The Pirates picked up 3 walks 2 by E Siefer and 1 by Homier.
Continental falls to 0-1 and will travel to Leipsic on Tuesday. Paulding improves to 1-0.
