On Saturday Continental High Girls basketball team took the bus to Bryan for an OHSAA Division IV Sectional Final tilt against Buckeye Border Champion, Stryker. The game started out even as the Panthers opened up the game with a basket and Pirate Senior Kaitlyn Alvarado matched that 2 pointer. The Panthers put in a 3 to take a lead that they would not lose to make it 5 – 2. An Alvarado free throw was all the Pirates would put in for the quarter. The score remained 5-3 till 2 seconds left in the first when the Pirates fouled a 3 point attempt and the Panthers would hit all three to make it 8-3 after 1.
The second quarter was all Panthers as they put in the first 6 points before Alex Hoeffel put in a free throw to make it 14-4. A free throw by the Panthers was met by a Pirates basket by Brooke Bradford to make it a 9 point game 15-6 Panthers. The Panthers would put in the last 5 points of the quarter to go into halftime with a 20-6 lead.
The third quarter had the Panthers put in the first 8 points to expand their lead to 22. A free throw by Senior Amber Logan ended the Panther run. The Panthers would put in 12 of the next 15 points as a Hoeffel free throw and an Alvarado basket were the points for the Pirates. Panthers 40, Pirates 10 after 3.
The Pirates outscored the Panthers 12-8 in the final quarter to make it a 48-22 Panther final.
Senior Amber Logan led the Pirates with 6 points while fellow Senior Kaitlyn Alvarado had 5. Junior Brooke Bradford had 2 points. Sophomores Katie Keller had 3 points and Alex Hoeffel had 2. Freshman Madi Potts finished with 4. The Pirates did not hit a 3 point shot.
Continental finishes their season at 5-19 while the Panthers improve to 18-4. The Panthers move on to the Archbold District semifinals on Thursday where they will play Holgate. The Panthers were the #2 seed in the Archbold District while Holgate is #2. The Pirates were the #11 seed. The other half of the Archbold District is #1 seed Wayne Trace and #4 seed Pettisville.
