Some games nothing goes right and that was the case for the Continental High Girls Basketball when they hosted Patrick Henry on Saturday. The Patriots opened the game by putting in the first 12 points. The Patriots run was stopped when Kerri Prowant put in a basket. That would be the only points for the Pirates in the first quarter as the Patriots would score the final 5 points of the quarter. A near half court 3 by the Patriots at the buzzer summed up the Pirates day. Patriots 18, Pirates 3 after 1.
The second quarter had the Pirates offense and defense slow down the Patriots a little but it was still all Patrick Henry. The Patriots opened the second quarter by hitting a basket which was matched by the Pirates when Addyson Armey put in a matching basket. A 5 point Patriot run was stopped when Pirate Prowant put in a basket to make it Patriots 25, Pirates 7. The Patriot would again close the quarters scoring with a 3 to make it Patriots 28, Pirates 7 at half.
A close third quarter went the Patriots way by a point. Pirate Madelyn Potts opened up the second half by hitting a basket to make it 28-9 Patriots. The Patriots would have a 4 point run that was matched by Pirates when Alex Hoeffel put in a basket and Katie Keller would make 2 free throws. A 5 point Patriot run was stopped when Hoeffel hit a basket to end the quarters scoring. Patriots 37, Pirates 15.
The final quarter was all Patriots as the only offense the Pirates could muster was a Prowant free throw and a Addyson Armey basket. Patriots 46, Pirates 18 final. Patrick Henry took the Junior Varisty game 18-11. Halftime entertainment was provided by the elementary girls teams from Patrick Henry and Continental scrimmaging.
Kerri Prowant led the Pirates with 5 points while Alex Hoeffel and Addyson Armey both had 4. Madelyn Potts and Katie Keller both had 2 points while Jensen Armey had 1. The Pirates made no 3 point shots while the Patriots made 6.
Continental falls to 4-15 and will travel to Ayersville on Tuesday for a non league game. Patrick Henry improves to 9-11.
This was the last home game in the 2018-19 season for the Lady Pirates as Senior Madi Sharp is finishing up her Continental basketball career. Good Luck to Madi in your future endeavors!
