Highlighting the 2019 Continental Pirate Softball season had to be Senior Riley Fenter pitching a no hitter against Cardinal Strich in a game at the Ayersville Pilot Invitional. Continental finished the season at 6-11 (3-3 PCL). Seniors Riley Fenter, Jessica Stauffer, and Junior Kennedy Hiltner were named first team PCL.
It was a rough year for the Putnam County League in tournament as only 4 teams made it to the Sectional finals with none advancing. Continental advanced to one of the Elida District’s Sectional Finals by defeating Kalida 17-6. The Pirates season ended at the sectional finals when #1 seed Parkway dispatched the Pirates. Leipsic got the only other Putnam County League win in tournament as they beat Cory Rawson 14-4 in a Findlay District Sectional Semifinal. The Vikings season ended in the sectional finals by #1 seed Bluffton. Columbus Grove and Miller City both garnered byes to the sectional finals in the Elida District but were defeated in their opening games.
Pirate tournament nemesis #3 seed Crestview advanced out of the Elida District while #2 seed New Riegel advanced out of the Findlay District. Antwerp dispatched both Crestview and New Riegel in the Findlay Regional. Taking out New Riegel in the Regional Semifinal 3-2 and Crestview in the Regional Finals 3-0. Antwerp (20-2) took the State Semifinal game against Peebles 1-0 and will play Mechanicsburg in the State Finals on Sunday (postponed Saturday night due to field conditions at Akron).
