
A festive night at Continental High on Friday night as the Continental Volunteer Fire Department hosted their Annual toy drive and the Pirate Pep Band showed up with a strong sound for the Boys basketball game against Hicksville. The Pirates got off to a great start with Monty Rayle making the first basket and finding Brady Thomsen for a basket and a pair of free throws while the Aces matched that with a pair of baskets. Pirates 6-4. A pair of 3 put the Aces in front 10-6. The Pirates found Thomsen inside for a basket to make it a 2 point game 10-8 Aces. The Aces made 3 while the Pirates went back inside to Tyson Clemens to make it 12-10 Aces. Following an Aces basket it looked like it would be 14-10 Aces after 1 but Pirate Jackson Bidlack hit a 3 to make it a 1 point game after 1. Aces 14-13.
The Aces made a 3 point play and a basket to push their lead to 5. The Pirates found Thomsen inside again to make it 18-15 Aces. An Aces 3 was followed with another Thomsen basket 21-17 Aces. A pair of Aces free throw closed the scoring for the half. Aces 23-17 with Thomsen scoring 10 for the Pirates. Thomsen opened up the third quarter scoring with a basket to make it 23-19 Aces. Thomsen then went to the bench and it was all Aces as they scored the the next 10 points and 11 of 13 as the Pirates would get a Clemens free throw. Aces 35-20. A Rayle 3 would cut the lead to 12 35-23 Aces. A basket by the Aces would finish off the 3rd scoring. Aces 37-23.
The Aces would score the first 5 points of the 4th to take a 42-23 lead. A basket by Quinn Tegenkamp would make it 42-25. A pair of Aces basket was followed by a pair of Collin Hammond free throws for a 46-27 Aces lead. The Aces would put more 4 on their total while the Pirates would close out the scoring with a Tegenkamp 3 point play. Aces 50-30 final.
Brady Thomsen led the Pirates with 12 points. Monty Rayle and Quinn Tegenkamp both scored 5. Jackson Bidlack and Tyson Clemens both had 3. Collin Hammond scored 2. The Pirates made two 3s with Rayle and Bidlack both making 1. The Aces made five 3s. The Pirates were 6-9 from the line while the Aces were 5-8.
Continental falls to 0-3 and will travel to Lincolnview on Saturday. Hicksville improves to 2-1.
