
The host Pirates were in the position to tie with 20 second to go in the non league Boys Basketball game against Lima Temple Christian but it fell off the rim so the Pioneers escaped with a 3 point win. It was the Pirates who hit the bottom of the net first as a Monty Rayle basket staked the Pirates to a 2-0 lead. A Pioneer basket and 3 point play made it 5-2 Pioneers. A Pirates basket by Tyson Clemens made it a 1 point game. The Pioneers hit a 3 pointer to take a 8-4 lead. The Pirates took the lead with a 7 point run fueled by a pair of Brady Thomsen baskets and a 3 point play by Clemens. The Pioneers would retake the lead with a 5 point run. Pioneers 13-11 after 1.
A Pioneer 3 opened up the second quarter scoring and pushed their lead to 5 16-11. The Pirates put in the next 10 points with Quinn Tegenkamp and Rayle each scoring 5. Pirates 21-16. A 3 and 2 by the Pioneers finished of the second quarter scoring. 21 all at half.
The Pioneers hit a free throw to temporarily take the lead. The Pirates got a Thomsen basket to retake the lead at 23-22. A three point play by the Pioneers made it 25-23 Pioneers. The Pirates would match the 3 points with a Rayle 3 26-25 Pirates. A basket by the Pioneers was the last of the 11 points scored in the third and left them with a 27-26 advantage.
The Pioneers would score the first 5 points of the fourth quarter on a pair of baskets and a free throw to make it 32-26. The Pirates would hold the Poineers to 1 point the remainder of the game but only put in 4 in the fourth quarter on a Clemens free throw and a Rayle 3. The Pirates had a last chance to tie but the shot missed. Pioneers 33-30.
Mason Rayle led the Pirates with 13 points including three 3s. Tyson Clemens and Brady Thomsen both put in 6. Quinn Tegenkamp made 5 including one 3 pointer.
Continental falls to 0-2 and will host Hicksville on Friday night. Lima Temple Christian improves to 2-0.
