
Saturday the foot of Collin Davis assured that Continental High Boys Soccer season did not end in the OHSAA DIII Kalida District Sectional Semifinal. The #3 seed host Pirates took on #7 seed Spencerville on Saturday with an early 11:00 start for the District Semifinal berth. Spencerville had advanced to the Sectional Final with a 1-0 win over #8 seed Allen East on Tuesday while the Pirates picked up one of the 4 byes to the sectional final. Pirate Davis put the Pirates on the board a little under 10 minutes into the game with his first goal. Twelve minutes later with 17:08 Davis made it 2-0 hitting the back of the net off a Hunter Varner pass. Pirates 2-0 at half.
The second half did not have Davis score but he did pick up an assist with 6:51 left in the game. Bain Stegbauer picked up the goal as the Pirates took a 3-0 lead. A scant 17 seconds later the Tigers hit the back of the net so with 6:34 left in the game, it was now Pirates 3-1. Pirates 3-1 final.
Collin Davis led the Pirates with 2 goals and an assist. Bain Stegbauer scored a goal. Hunter Varner picked up an assist.
Collin Hammond picked up the win in goal for the Priates with 3 saves. The Pirates had a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal and a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Continental improves to 10-7-1 and will take on #1 seed Ottoville in a OHSAA DIII Kalida District Semifinal on Wednesday at 5:00. Ottoville is ranked #1 in the latest OSSCA DIII poll and has a 17-0-1 record. Ottoville advanced to the District Semifinal with a 4-0 win over #11 seed Lima Temple Christian. Spencervills falls to 9-7-1.
