Pirate Boys Soccer – Armey Set School Record for Goals in a Game

October 1, 2022 by Adam Donaldson

Pirates 0, Kalida Wildcats 4
On  Friday night (9/23), Continental finished off their defense of the Putnam County League Boys Soccer title against Kalida.  Continental needed a win to stay in the 2022 title hunt that did not happen on this fall night.  A hard fought first half had only 1 goal and that went the Wildcats way.  A corner kick from the left corner was headed in by a Wildcat to give them the 1-0 lead.  The second half saw a pressing Pirate offense that yielded some offensive openings for the Wildcats that they took advantage of.  This resulted in 3 more goals for the Wildcats.  The Pirates did have a number of great shots, hitting the goal post 1.  Wildcats 4-0 final.
Continental falls to 7-3-1 (1-2-1 PCL) .  Kalida improves to 9-1-1 (3-0-0 PCL).
Pirates 6, Lincolnview 1
Tuesday (9/20) night Linconview came to Continental and took an early lead only to have the Pirates Boys Soccer team dominate the rest of the game.  The Lancer drew first blood by hitting the back of the just 3:42 into the game.  Then Pirate Senior Rhenn Armey went on a scoring spree.  Armey put in an unassisted goal 9:27 into the game to tie the score at 1.  One and half minutes later the Pirates took the lead for good when Armey put in goal 2 with Carson Etter getting the assist.  Monty Rayle would put the Pirates up 3-1 with an unassisted goal with 15:54 left in the half.  Armey would pick up the first half hat trick when he put the Pirates up 4-1 with less than 2 minutes later.  Pirates 4-1 at half.
Armey continued the scoring when he put in goal 4 with 12:42 left in the game.  Pirates 5-1.  Armey would score his fifth goal and set a new Pirate Boys goal scoring in a game with 8:39 left.  Etter picked up the assist.  Pirates 6-1 final.
Rhenn Armey set the school standard for goals in a game at 5 breaking the record of 4 shared by Armey (2021), Erik Tegenkamp (2002) and Dallas Geckle (2013).  Monty Rayle put in an additional goal for the Pirates while Carson Etter had 2 assists.
Konnor Knipp Williams was the goalie for record for the Pirates with 1 save.  The Pirates had a 15-2 shot on goal advantage.  Pirates had 9 corner kicks to the Lancer 1 corner.  Continental is now 7-2-1.  Rhenn Armey has 98 career goal.
