Friday night Kalida played host to Continental Boys Soccer in a key Putnam County League game. Last year the two teams tied for the League Championship. This year the Pirates, with 1 loss already, needed at least a tie to have any hope to repeat. The action was heavy from the start with the Wildcats in control. The Wildcats had chances to score at the 22 minute when a free kick sailed wide and again at the 22 minute mark when the Pirates defense stopped a couple of Wildcat tries off a corner kick. The Pirates offense had a great chance to open up the scoring in the 16 minute when a try sailed just wide. Kalida made it 1-0 when a shot off a corner kick when in at 12:49. That was it for scoring in the first half. Wildcats 1, Pirates 0.
The second half had the Pirates have a couple of tries for the equalizer when at shot at 31:50 went just wide and another attempt at 23:45 also just missed. At 18:18 left the Wildcats put in the insurance goal when a short pass off a corner kick. The Wildcats sealed the game when a shot just inside the penalty box was pushed by the Pirate Goalie with 13:05 left. Wildcats 3, Pirates 0.
Kalida had 5 shots on goal. Pirate goalie Trevor Brecht was credited with 2 saves. Kalida had 7 corner kicks.
The Pirates end their PCL schedule with a 2-2 record while the Wildcats improve to 3-0. Continental is 5-4-1 overall. Kalida is 4-1-3 overall. Continental won the Junior Varsity game 2-0.
