How did Continental High Softball start their defense of the Putnam County League Title on Tuesday at home against Ottoville? Start with batting around in the second while holding the Big Green hitless. After a scoreless first the Pirates batted around in the second and put 6 runs on the board to take an early lead. The Pirates added a run in the fourth and 3 in the fifth to take the 10-0 victory. The Pirates had masterful pitching from ace Gracie Homier as she threw a no hitter and missed a perfect game by 2 baserunners.
Ava Homier led the Pirates with 3 hits, scoring 3 runs, driving in a run, and stealing a base. Kenzie Searfoss had a pair of hits and a walk, and drove in a pair of runs. Gracie Homier had a hit, scored a pair of runs and drove in a pair of runs and stole a base. Kimberly Grant had 1 hit, was hit by a pitch, stole a base, scored and drove in a run. Mallorie Barnhart was hit by 2 pitches, stole a base and scored a run. Becca Sullivan was hit by two pitches, and scored a run. Ryley Winkle walked, scored twice and drove in a run. Gracie Homier picked up the win in the circle for the Pirates. Homier pitched a no hitter with 12 strikeouts. The Pirates had 2 errors while the Big Green had 3. Continental improves to 5-1 (1-0 PCL) and will travel to Pettisville on Friday. Ottoville falls to 0-5 (0-2 PCL).
