Pirate Softball & Baseball Sweep Hornets

March 30, 2019 by Karen Donaldson

Pirate Baseball :

The Continental High baseball season opener did not go the Pirates way but the second game of the season did.  The Pirates opened the year up hosting Wayne Trace in a nonleague game.  Although the Pirates took an early lead with 2 runs in the first it was the Raiders who took the game by plating 4 in the third and 3 more in the fifth.  The Pirates would add one to their run total in the third.  Wayne Trace 7, Continental 3.  Blake Elkins took the loss for the Pirates as he went 6 innings.

On Tuesday, Pirate baseball hit the road to join the Softball team in Rawson to take on Cory-Rawson in a non league game.  The visiting Pirates put up the first run of the game in the second inning only to have it matched by the Hornets in the bottom half of the second.  The Hornets would take a 1 run lead in the fourth.  The one run Hornet lead would last for an inning till the Pirates came back and plated 4 runs in the 6th inning.  That was all the runs for the day as the Pirates evened their record with the 5-2 win.  Nick States picked up the complete game win as he allowed only 5 Hornet hits.  The Pirates had 8 hits and were led by Cole Bowers who had a single, double, and 2 RBIS.  Jarret Keck had a pair of singles for the Pirates.

Continental is now 1-1 and will host Stryker in a doubleheader on Saturday (postponed).  Cory Rawson is also 1-1.
