There was a lot on the line Friday when Miller City hosted Continental in Putnam County League Softball. A win by the Wildcats and they finish their season undefeated in the PCL, a win by the Pirates and they stay on track to claim their third PCL championship in a row. It was the Pirates who jumped to the early lead by scoring 3 in the top of the first. The Wildcats would score to in the bottom of the second to make it a 1 run game 3-2 Pirates. The weather had taken a turn to sprinkles but that did not damper the Pirates offense as they added 1 to their total in the third and 2 in the fifth. Pirates 6-2 winners.
Kimberly Grant led the Pirates with a pair of singles and 3 runs driven in. Maeci Dockery hit a pair of singles and scored a run. Mallorie Barnhart hit a pair of singles. Gracie Homier had a hit, a walk and scored 3 runs. Kenize Searfoss had a hit, a walk and scored twice. Becca Sullivan hit a single walked twice and drove in a run. The Pirates outhit the Wildcats 10-4, and earned 5 walks. Miller City committed 4 errors.
Gracie Homier pitched a complete game going 7 innings giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits and 14 strikeouts. The Wildcats made 4 errors. Continental improves to 13-3 (4-0 PCL) and will host Paulding on Saturday. Miller City falls to 11-8 (5-1 PCL).
Coach Aguirre: The Pirate Players of the Game is the whole team. This win was a team win in the rain, and they came out and battled and played their hearts out to continue the fight for a 3 peat PCL Championship.
